The University of Iowa is committed to supporting informed decision making across campus by ensuring reliable access to accurate data.

Campus Data Portal

Campus Data is a searchable portal to reports, dashboards, and visualizations created by data teams across campus.  You will need a HawkID to log in.

The Campus Data portal helps you find the reports and information you need quickly.  Data providers decide where data and solutions should be stored; Campus Data acts as a signpost, pointing you in the right direction.  Getting familiar with this powerful tool will help you spend less time searching and more time understanding the data.

Data Warehouse

The University Data Warehouse is a central repository of historical data from many sources, both academic and administrative. Stored in an Oracle database instance (DWPROD), the Data Warehouse houses distinct subject areas (schemas) that represent data required for key business and academic processes at the University of Iowa. Individuals can access the data warehouse directly, if they have a business need to do so; or they can access data stored in warehouse via reports and solutions created by campus data providers, usually through the Campus Data portal.

How does the Warehouse benefit the University?

Pulling Data Sources Together

The warehouse collects, standardizes, and organizes data from many of the University of Iowa’s core institutional data systems. While not exhaustive, you can find data relating to many of the everyday functions of a university campus.

Accurate, Fresh Data

Data in the warehouse are refreshed on a regular schedule--most nightly--via automated processes that draw from core institutional systems. These processes build the data tables that feed the university's business intelligence and reporting data tools.

The warehouse stores snapshots of data taken at key points in time, providing valid data needed for reporting, analysis, and strategic decision making.

Streamlined Access

A university employee with a business need for data in the warehouse can easily request access through the Data Warehouse Catalog in the Campus Data portal (click on the subject area you need and look for the "Request Access" button).  Data stewards for each subject area grant access as appropriate.  Data stewards also establish appropriate terms of use for their subject areas.
